Erosion File Created by Century5 Simulations

The erosion file contains the amounts of each pool removed from the site due to erosion events. Each eroded pool amount can be reduced by the fractions specified in the site parameters category Erosion and Deposition. Erosion files are optional. Your management can have erosion events without writing an erosion file. Specify the name and path of the erosion file in the Management Editor's "Simulation Information" dialog page.

This file can be used as input for deposition events. Specify the deposition input file and path in the Management Editor's "Simulation Information" dialog page.

The erosion file is written in netCDF format. You can use the utility ef2csv to convert the file to a text, CSV format which can be imported directly in your spreadsheet software.

Data in the Erosion File

Field Description Units
simulation time Simulation time for this erosion event. year.month-fraction
thickness Thickness of eroded soil. cm
bulk density Bulk density of soil of the eroded thickness, before erosion. gm cm-3
sand fraction Texture fraction of non-organic soil that is sand-sized.
silt fraction Texture fraction of non-organic soil that is silt-sized.
clay fraction Texture fraction of non-organic soil that is clay-sized.
unlabeled organic C Organic 12C in the eroded material. There are 5 values representing amounts eroded from the following soil pools: active ( SOM1CI(2,1) ), slow ( SOM2CI(1) ), passive ( SOM3CI(1) ), metabolic ( METCIS(2,1) ), structural ( STRCIS(2,1) ). gm m-2
labeled organic C Organic 13C or 14C in the eroded material. There are 5 values representing amounts eroded from the following soil pools: active ( SOM1CI(2,2) ), slow ( SOM2CI(2) ), passive ( SOM3CI(2) ), metabolic ( METCIS(2,2) ), structural ( STRCIS(2,2) ). gm m-2
organic N Organic N in the eroded material. There are 5 values representing amounts eroded from the following soil pools: active ( SOM1E(2,1) ), slow ( SOM2E(1) ), passive ( SOM3E(1) ), metabolic ( METABE(2,1) ), structural ( STRUCE(2,1) ). gm m-2
organic P Organic P in the eroded material. There are 5 values representing amounts eroded from the following soil pools: active ( SOM1E(2,2) ), slow ( SOM2E(2) ), passive ( SOM3E(2) ), metabolic ( METABE(2,2) ), structural ( STRUCE(2,2) ). gm m-2
