Geospatial Lessons and Applications in Natural Resources

Dr. Paul Evangelista (PI), Dr. Amanda West, Nicholas Young

Geospatial sciences represent a blend of information technologies that help us better understand earth’s inhabitants, physical structure and processes. These technologies, including Geographic Positioning Systems (GPS), Geographical Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing and spatial modeling, are particularly important for natural resource management and conservation. The Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory and Department of Ecosystem Science and Sustainability, in collaboration with The Murulle Foundation , Secondary Cities , the National Science Foundation , the Center for Collaborative Conservation, and the Geospatial Centroid at CSU, we have brought specialized geospatial training to Ethiopian resource managers, scientists, aid workers, teachers and students through seminars, workshops, demonstrations, and free online training. Much of these efforts and the learning materials generated have been led by CSU students as part of class projects, graduate research, Peace Corps service, or simply as volunteers.
