Wild Lands Explorations - Crestridge Ecological ReserveEvent type: Other - Nature Hike Program in cooperation with the State of California Department
of Fish and Game. Van transportation is provided to all locations. The
California Department of Fish and Game and the San Diego Natural History
Museum have a joint cooperative agreement promoting ecological conservation
and public education in Southern California. Each party brings specialized
skills and resources to address the growing emphasis on habitat and
species conservation in the region. Working together, the Department
and the Museum can accomplish conservation and education goals that
would be difficult to achieve working separately. Crestridge Ecological Reserve, located between El Cajon
and Alpine, is one of those special places where natural habitats and
wildlife are protected and managed in perpetuity. Hike along paths through
chaparral and sage scrub-covered slopes, live oak woodland, and grassland.
Observe the native plant and wildlife inhabitants, including Orange-throated
Whiptail, Cooper's Hawk, Nuttall's Woodpecker, Oak Titmouse, Lazuli
Bunting, and Rufous-crowned Sparrow. Insects such as the Tiger Swallowtail,
Behr's Metalmark, California Sister, stink beetles, and harvester ants
may also be seen. Class Code: P2-370-20 For more information contact M-F 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. PST:
