An international team has been formed to develop an integrated management and assessment system (IMAS), to be used by East African scientists, managers, and stakeholders to address land management questions. IMAS, supported by the Global Livestock Collaborative Research Support Program of USAID, integrates computer modeling of ecosystems, geographic information systems, remote sensing, and field studies to provide information and understanding necessary to conserve biodiversity, wildlife, and ecosystem integrity while increasing pastoral food security. The system enbables alternative policy and management strategies to be objectively explored, debated, implemented, and reassessed.

A more detailed introduction to IMAS is available, as well as descriptions of the individual projects that comprise IMAS. Check-out the latest news about IMAS, and a list of personnel and publications associated with IMAS. If you use the Savanna modeling system and have questions, see the Savanna Forum.
