Cathy Fromme Prairie Project Students from Rocky Mountain High School visit the Cathy Fromme Prairie in south Fort Collins each spring and fall. The students compare the composition and canopy height of prairie vegetation on and off prairie dog towns. A Daubenmeir frame is used to estimate the percent cover of four functional groups (grass, forb, shrub, cactus).
Pawnee Buttes Fieldtrip Students from Northridge High School visited the Pawnee Buttes in November 2005. Students hiked to the West Butte and learned about the local geology, history and learned to track ecological data with a GPS unit.
Prairie Dog Project The team at S. Christa McAuliffe Elementary is creating materials to facilitate child-driven experiences on the prairie. The group is working on a video to bring the prairie to schools that don't have the funds to travel to the Pawnee National Grassland or other remnant prairies.
