The Virginia BioBlitz will be held at Pocahontas State Park, near Richmond, on May 11-12 2002. The object of the BioBlitz is to list as many plants and animals as possible within a 24 hour period beginning at noon on Saturday, May 11th.

The Virginia BioBlitz is designed to raise the awareness of the state's incredible biodiversity among its citizens. The BioBlitz is one of many events being held across the country as part of "Explore Your World! Biodiversity Month," organized by the International Biodiversity Observation Year 2001-2002 (visit: http://www.nrel.colostate.edu/IBOY).

This is a wonderful opportunity to add to the knowledge of Virginia's flora and fauna and work with other biologists and naturalists in the field. If you would like to join the Virginia BioBlitz team, please contact Dr. Art Evans at arthurevans@earthlink.net for further details.
