River Day at Woodlake Field Station in Cuyahoga Valley National Park

The Woodlake Environmental Field Station is a center dedicated to research and education exploring the effects of urbanization on ecosystems. Located between Cleveland and Akron, Ohio in the Cuyahoga Velly National Park, the station is an excellent place to study the interface between forested and suburban/urban landscapes. Woodlake will host a BioBlitz to celebrate River Day, a regional event emphasizing the importance of the Cuyahoga River to vitality of NE Ohio. Visitors to the station will join faculty and students of Cleveland State and John Carroll Universities in surveys of major ecological features of the station campus, including stream ecology, wetland ecology, aquatic and terrestrial vegetation, insects, amphibians and reptiles, deer, and coyote. Additional activities will include station tours, interpretive nature walks, and exhibits on on-going research.
