Principal Biome/Ecoregion
Foothills Fescue
grassland subregion. Mainly on glacial outwash and moraine
deposits of the hills of the lower east slopes of the Rocky
Mountains in Alberta. Soil is mainly dark brown and black
chernozem. Climate is characterized by milder winters, frequent
chinooks (temporary warm periods of a few days, resulting
from reverse adiabatic warming as air moves downslope from
the montane to grassland regions). Winter and summer percipitation
and moisture availability are greater than in other nearby
grassland ecoregions
