Wildebeest portrait Olope mean "Aggressive" in the Maa language, a good name for this animal. Olope was the first animal we collared, and so we were all getting used to the process. Olope was a big male, maybe the biggest we have collared so far. Researchers and students were anxious to get a good look at Olope, and did not realize the veterinarians had reversed the immobilizing drug. Olope jumped up, with a veterinary technician still holding on to him, and headed for some people! Fortunately, the technician was able to release the animal and Olope veered away, so that everybody was fine. In the confusion, we did not get a photograph of Olope, the only one we did not take a picture of. Instead, a picture of the last male we collared is shown.
